Project Overview
MPMS 88314 rehabilitates approximately 12.39 miles of SR 0581 between I-81 and I-83 in Cumberland County. The project focuses on restoring structural integrity and ride quality along this high-volume corridor through full-depth repairs, surface refinement, and joint rehabilitation. Work is being performed under staged traffic conditions to maintain mobility between two major interstate connections.
Construction Scope
Construction activities include removal of deteriorated concrete pavement, installation of Type C full-depth patches, dowel and tie-bar placement, joint repair and resealing, and diamond grinding to restore smoothness and cross-slope tolerances.
Full-depth patch operations require precise sawcut removal, subbase preparation, reinforcement alignment, and dimensional verification prior to concrete placement. Following curing, diamond grinding operations refine the finished surface to meet ride and tolerance specifications.
Cold-weather placements utilize heating blankets and monitored curing procedures to ensure proper strength development and specification compliance.
Construction Inspection
Patel Infrastructure provides on-site Construction Inspection services throughout the duration of the project. Oversight includes verification of structural removal limits, reinforcement and dowel installation, patch geometry, curing compliance, joint preparation, and final surface tolerances.
Maintenance and Protection of Traffic (MPT) operations are coordinated to maintain safe traffic flow through active work zones, with continuous documentation and quality assurance measures supporting PennDOT compliance.

Project Overview
The I-78 Lenhartsville Bridge Replacement Project involves the full replacement and widening of the existing structure carrying Interstate 78 over Maiden Creek and PA-143 in Greenwich Township, Berks County. Originally constructed in 1955 and last rehabilitated in 1985, the bridge carries approximately 50,000 vehicles per day, with nearly 30 percent truck traffic.
This P3 project replaces the aging structure and widens the corridor to provide auxiliary lanes and full inside and outside shoulders in both directions. The improvements establish a consistent typical section along the I-78 corridor and enhance operational efficiency through the PA-143 interchange.
Construction Scope
Work includes complete bridge demolition and reconstruction over Maiden Creek and PA-143, along with roadway widening to accommodate auxiliary lanes. Improvements address substandard westbound deceleration and eastbound acceleration lane lengths, enhancing merge safety and traffic flow.
Construction activities involve staged traffic management, structural foundation work, substructure and superstructure construction, roadway reconstruction, drainage modifications, and integration of the widened cross section into the existing interstate corridor.
Given the traffic volumes and freight percentage, construction sequencing and traffic control operations are critical components of the project delivery strategy.
Construction Support & Quality Oversight
Patel Infrastructure provides on-site construction inspection services as part of the P3 delivery team. Responsibilities include structural element inspection, reinforcement verification, dimensional compliance checks, concrete placement oversight, documentation control, and coordination with PennDOT and project partners.
With interstate-level traffic volumes maintained throughout construction, inspection operations require continuous coordination to ensure specification compliance, safety standards, and quality assurance across multi-year phased construction activities.
Project Significance
The Lenhartsville Bridge Replacement modernizes a critical segment of I-78, improves interchange functionality at PA-143, and enhances long-term reliability for passenger and freight movement through Berks County.
